After getting back down from Termossos, we got picked up by another Dolmus, taken back to the bus depot, picked up our bags, bought tickets to Olympus, bought some water and some chips ( we were starving), and got on the bus to Olympos. After about an hour drive along the coast going South, we were dropped of at a small restuarant on the side of the road. A man on the bus ( who turned out to be the owner of one of the largest hostels in Olympos) told us that we had to get another dolmus down to Olympus. It was about another 20 minutes down into a valley on a rural country road towards the beach. As we made it to Olympus, I felt like I was entering a hippie campsite...if that makes any sense. There were lots of brightly colored hand painted signs with the names of the hostels and the road was actually the dried up river bed. We were dropped off in the midst of a row of hostels. One after the other, tree house hostels were advertising fresh juices, free breakfasts, happy hours, and a good time. There were so many to pick from but we had chatted to lots of people at the ShoeString and chose Bayrum's much to the shagrin of the hostel owner on the dolmus with us. That's where Becca and Nathan ended up staying...but I think they are all relatively the same. Bayrum's did have a great outdoor area, good food, and nice people. I can't even imagine this place at peak season...it would be party haven. It had a very buzzy vibe. very.
Each of the hostels offers a trip up to see Chimaera, the eternal flames, but we met up with Nathan and Becca to walk up there, save some money and enjoy the evening. It took a couple hours and was a beautiful walk in beautiful evening weather. As we got closer, we could see the flames burning on the hillside. I hadn't read much about it until we got there, but it was cool little side trip that added to our time in Olympus.
